Vigla Pisoderi ski resort

Mount Verno, Greece

The ski center is located on Mount Verno, and currently has five lifts and ten trails, with total slopes length of 13 km. It is one of the oldest ski resorts in operation since its first sliding lift was installed in 1967. Vigla also has one of the most beautiful chalets in the Greek mountains.

The summit of the resort is 1939m above sea level, with a total vertical drop about 420m. The resort has a view of the Lake Prespa, on the border between Greece, Albania and North Macedonia.

Mparos pass

Tzoumerika, Greece

The pass is located on the boundary between Epirus and Thessaly. It has been used for centuries as a transit corridor through the Pindos Mountains. Up until 1912, the Greek-Turkish border ran right across this pass. The pass is 24.4 km (15.16 miles) long

The road to the summit is very challenging, with turns, hairpin turns, without guardrails in parts, and very steep, reaching an 18% maximum gradient through some of the ramps. It has narrow parts with dangerous drop-offs.

Kipinas Monastery

Epirus, Greece

Perched above the Kalarytikos River in Greece’s Tzoumerka mountains, the Monastery of Kipina was founded in the 13th century by monks from Vyliza Monastery who ingeniously bridged a ravine to reach a cave in a vertical cliff.

Built for protection against raids, the monastery features a high wall, a durable door, and a retractable wooden bridge. It also served as a refuge during the Turkish Occupation and is now admired for its cave adorned with stalactites and its rock-carved church.

Syrrako

Epirus, Greece

Syrrako is built on the slopes of Mount Peristeri (Lakmos) in the Pindus, offering natural shelter and security. Syrrako is separated from its twin village Kalarrytes by the deep ravine of the river Chroussias, a tributary of the Arachthos

Syrrako was inhabited before the 15th century (possibly in the 11th century) by Aromanians (Vlachs).

Monodendri

Epirus, Greece

Monodendri is built at a height of 1,060 meters (3,480 ft) and retains much of the traditional stone-built architecture.

The name "Monodendri" (meaning "lonely tree" or "single tree") came into use only in the beginning of the 19th century. Its origin is in a very large tree, whose remains still existed in 1910. The village was previously considered a neighbourhood of Vitsa.[2]

Viewpoint Oxya

Epirus, Greece

A few kilometers outside the village of Monodendri, there is a place with a unique view to the Vikos Gorge: the Oxya Viewpoint.

The short route to there, starts at the end of the road that comes from Monodendri. A protective stone wall has been constructed at this point. The view of the ravine is inconceivable. There is also a path that starts from the Monodendri village and ends at Oxya.

Acheron Springs

Preveza, Greece

Gates of Hades is a narrow part of the canyon formed by the Acheron river in the region of Epirus, in northwestern Greece. The river was believed to serve as the gates to the underworld in Ancient Greek religion.

The best way to get to the Acheron River is by car. Head towards the village of Gliki and leave the car in the parking lot. It’s about 10-minute walk in the forest to the springs and from there you can travel up the river as far as you like. As you walk further up, the path becomes wet so be equipped with waterproof bags and make sure you wear water shoes.

Camping Valtos

Parga, Greece

The campsite is located on the largest beach of Parga, in Valtos. Just 100 meters from the sea and 2 km from the center of Parga (by road) or 10 minutes walk (along the beach).

Inside the campsite you will find places with shade of wild mulberries and olives. Facilities include toilets, indoor and outdoor showers with hot tubs throughout the day, dishwashers, refrigerators, freezers, and washing machines.

In the area of the complex there is a fully equipped mini-market and a restaurant – cafe bar.

The names of the Chameria region (Tsamouria in Greek), as well as the Chams, derive from the river's name.
